I have gotten a few short opportunities to play with my new lens. I'm not positive that the pictures are that much sharper than my previous lens (the 50mm f/1.8) but at least I know that it won't break as easily if I drop it. The 1.8 was made of thin plastic so it didn't take much impact for it to break. I have noticed that this lens is much quieter (and heavier) due to the USM (ultrasonic motor). I am loving the pictures I have taken so far but that is probably because I went a couple of weeks with my kit lens and there really is no comparison. There was some good light coming in through Liam's bedroom window yesterday and the babies were being pretty cute so I snapped a few pictures. These are my favorites.
