Favorite part of the day

A few weeks ago I read in a Lent study book about how the author always asked his kids what their favorite part of the day was at night before they went to bed. He said that he would also ask himself the same question just before falling asleep and he learned that he could find good in each and every day. I wanted to start this practice but I have only remembered to do it about 3 times. Last night was one of those times. Liam said his favorite part of the day was playing on the iPad (lame!), I said that my favorite part was playing with the kids in Sunday School and watching them both actually participating (then I quickly added that having donuts with my coffee that morning was a close second), Paul said that he enjoyed waking up before Liam and then cuddling in bed with us all before starting the day (which was actually the day before but he's over 30 so I'll give it to him) then we all shared our ideas of what Brygit's favorite part might have been. I said it was probably an extra long nursing session she had, Liam thought it was probably playing in the bath with toys and Paul thought it was the fresh strawberries she enjoyed at dinner. We all kissed goodnight then went about our normal bedtime routine. When I finally went to bed I asked myself again what my favorite part of the day was and I had to say that it was discussing our favorite parts of the day. The four of us finally sitting still, close to each other, all smiles. I can't think of a better way to end the day.

Run!

'Tis the life of a mom when you sign up to do something just for you and you prepare for months only to have the kids get sick the day before the event. Lucky for me, my little Motrin filled troopers hung in there with the help of my amazingly wonderful in-laws and we all survived. AND had a great time. AND I completed my first 5K! Booyah! I don't know why I felt a "booyah!" was in order. I haven't said that since I was 12.
I did NOT take my camera to a mud pit so these photos were all taken by my friend's husband.

Sitting

Remember how I mentioned that Brygit's new favorite thing to do is try out chairs? Well, it is. She has been asking (well, pointing and grunting) for me to put her in every chair she sees. She especially likes sitting at the table along with everyone else which is just too bad since she is the messiest eater in the universe.
She even tried the "time out" step the other day after Liam finished using it. All in due time, little girl, all in due time.

So happy together

It's not very often that I get a picture of both kids together. They move so quickly that by the time I fumble with my camera, the moment has passed. But my cell phone tells a different story.

Liam and Brygit ride carousels toghether,

pretend to take naps together,

dig in the dirt together,

pop bubbles together,

share meals together,

read stories together,

dress like chefs together,

wear sunglasses together,

and helmets.

They cuddle,

and cuddle some more.

Liam pretends to be her doctor,

feeds her popcorn,

and teaches her how to shake her butt.

They chug water out of random cups together

and they swing together.

They have been fighting a bit lately. More like Liam has been needing more privacy when it comes to his toys lately and Brygit has no concept of personal space. But there are so many moments in between where I like to believe they are the best of friends. I even overheard Liam telling a kid at a playdate yesterday to get out of Brygit's face. That's what big brothers are for.

Cheeeese!

For a few months now we have been working on Liam's picture smile with him. He does the craziest face when he smiles for a picture. I have no idea why he thinks it's a smile or why he has trouble looking at the camera when he does it. A couple of days ago I was taking pictures of the kids and I watched as Brygit looked at Liam, took in the sight, then copied it.

Oh no. I now have two kids who look absolutely nuts when they try to smile for photographs. What in the world?
