First Camping Trip

When I bought Paul a tent for his birthday back in 2008, I never thought that the first time we would use it (outside of the living room) would be when we were taking our two kids camping. We have been putting this trip off for so long but we have finally taken our first baby step toward becoming regular campers. We went to Mojave Narrows, about 20 minutes away from home, in case it turned out to be a complete disaster but it wasn't. We had a great time and we learned a lot.

Liam learned that cows stink.

We learned that bringing a bag of M&Ms with us was the best way to get Liam to sit down for a few minutes while we set up camp.

We already knew that Brygit likes to be outdoors but she REALLY doesn't like it when an ant crawls up her bouncer and bites her.

Liam's favorite part about Mojave Narrows was the animals.

We camped right on the lake which was very serene.

They have a huge playground as well with a little water park. Liam didn't want to get wet but we did spend some time swinging.

Liam's idea of enjoying the great outdoors was playing with the ipad in the tent.

We roasted hot dogs and forgot the condiments.

Liam made S'mores for the very first time.

And he was very interested in the "grabbers." We let him play pick up with a few marshmallows.

We discovered these amazing orange campfire cakes. I plan to dedicate a whole blog post to these puppies very soon so just wait.

We enjoyed time in the shade and Liam liked taking snacks out of the ice chest.

And we cuddled in the tent.

Then Paul and Liam took a walk alone where they saw, "sticks and dirt and all kinds of stuff!"

Then the sun went down, it got nice and chilly and we decided to end on a good note and packed up and went home. We were planning on staying the night but we thought Liam might not be game and we really wanted him to remember it as a fun experience so we went home. Not bad for a first step, I think.
