This little boy is almost FOUR! He starts preschool in three short weeks which makes me think things like, "Today is Tuesday. I only have three more of them with my little boy." Then I do the same on Thursday. If you're wondering if Liam gets his flair for the dramatic from me, you're right. Seriously, he is only going twice a week for three hours each day and I act like he's going off to college. It's a huge step, though! People keep asking me if I'm excited and, really, I am. For him, mostly. I truly believe the school we have chosen will be great for him and it will be a good place for him to learn how to leave Mommy's side for a bit. As for me, I'm looking forward to having a little more one on one time with Brygit and I'm hoping it will be easier to schedule that time with Liam as well.
Enough about preschool. This is what Liam is like at the ripe old age of four:
He drives me insane, melts my heart and makes me laugh hard. He throws fits if I give him milk in the wrong cup or strawberries in the wrong bowl or if I put his Batman cape on wrong or tie his towel differently after he swims. When he's upset about the way something is going, he tries to communicate what he wants as his voice shakes and his lips turn down. It used to end in tears regardless but now he blinks them back and musters a semi-normal voice so we can understand what he wants. He has this "adult speak" where he pretends to be talking like a grown up but most of his words are made up. It sounds a bit like, "Of course there has to be senvench and it's like omaysenventel tertless, you know?" He says things like "that's music to my ears," "certainly," "I guarantee it!" and "It was my pleasure." He has also said things like, "I hate being forced into these things," and, "I can't believe how selfish you are!" (Both in reference to us asking him to use the restroom). He likes going places meant for kids and he already complains about going shopping with us. He is obsessed with Batman Lego. He talks about it constantly. His favorite game is pretending it's Easter or Christmas morning. He either hides eggs filled with little toys or he wraps random items up in Brygit's blankets. He rises with the sun, doesn't nap and I'm currently laying on the floor of his room waiting for him to fall asleep as he insists every night. He has become a daddy's boy this past year which I thought would never happen. He prefers Paul to me in most instances but I still do things better because I'm Mommy. He has been surprising me a lot lately with how sociable he is becoming and how easily he makes friends. He still eats almost anything and he loves going to restaurants. He loves his sister even though she drives him nuts. He gets very angry when she takes his stuff or when she hits him over the head with swords but he does really well with involving her and he is constantly cuddling her. He tries to boss her around and he gets annoyed at how uncooperative she is which I believe to be a good thing since this boy is STILL the bossiest person I have ever met. I'm still trying not to squelch that fire while teaching him how to play nicely with others without exhausting them. He makes the sweetest face when he is concentrating. He is unbelievably ticklish. His memory is absolutely astounding. He enjoys doing mazes, puzzles and matching games. Whenever I tell him he's a good boy he tells me I'm a good girl and I'm not gonna lie. It kinda makes my day.
We will be celebrating this milestone with a family party at home and a trip to Disneyland as we have done every year since he was born.
