Triangles and Letter H

 

Last week Brygit learned about triangles and the letter H.

 

We did a little color mixing to talk a bit more about orange and then she painted a triangle she glued together with popsicle sticks.

 

 

She also made this candy corn craft and, of course, snacked on some real candy corn.

 

We also talked about how H is for Halloween and Hello Kitty. Brygit enjoyed sticking these stickers on so much that she used the entire package of stickers. I just gave her scraps of paper and showed her how to build an H then I let her stick the rest of the stickers on that one.

 

We didn't get to do all that I had planned since this week went by way too fast and we spent a morning at a Frankenstein play date. Priorities, people. But I'm excited to teach Brygit more this month!

 

The Color Black and Nocturnal Animals

The past couple of weeks I have been working with Brygit on the color Black and on learning a bit about nocturnal animals. She made this cute black cat and took pictures of black items she found around the house for her color book. 

Then we talked about nocturnal animals and did this "night creature" craft with google eyes and sticks we collected from outside.  I also talked to her about which animals are nocturnal. I drew some pictures that are too embarrassing to post and she colored them.

Then today she made this bat craft. The stars were technically supposed to be in the sky to symbolize night but she insisted they needed to go on the "starry bat." Oh, and he needed google eyes.

The Color Orange

Now that I have more one on one time with Brygit, I have the opportunity to work with her on learning colors and shapes and whatnot. I looked into doing a preschool curriculum online with her and I found some pretty amazing (and free!) stuff on Pinterest but I decided to take it a bit slower and just personalize some fun learning activities with her. This week, we have focused on the color orange. I am planning on doing orange and black with her this month because, well, obviously it's October. We start each day by listening to the "Orange Song" on Youtube then we do a little orange activity. Yesterday we hunted around the house for orange objects and I helped Brygit take a picture of each one (a little cell phone photography lesson never hurt either). We printed her pictures out and glued them on a piece of paper to be put in a color book we will eventually be making.

Today we did a little cutting. 

And tearing.

And we glued the scraps onto a pumpkin shape.

Oh, and we played with these.

I love how Brygit gets so excited about doing things together and making things like brother gets to do at school. And I hope she's learning a little too.

First and last

I seriously cannot believe the school year is over. Liam's preschool experience went by way too fast for my liking. He has grown and learned so much since the fall. Here are pictures of his first and last days as a little preschool boy. Now he is officially a big kindergartener. 

 

 

 

We kind of made a big deal about the last day of school and celebrated with an ice cream party at school, lunch at the lake and games at Chuck E. Cheese.

 

Preschool stuff

Liam has been making some pretty fun preschool memories. Now that the year is pretty much winding down I thought I should share some of his recent events. His school hosted an Art and Science fair a couple of weeks ago that I seriously could not pull the kids away from. The students' art was on display all around the school and there were art and science stations where the kids can make a craft or do an experiment and then there were carnival games and a cupcake truck. They were on Cloud 9.

Then Liam was finally chosen for his turn with "Piggy." It's kind of like a Flat Stanley thing where his teacher has a stuffed pig that gets to spend a week with each kid and they document Piggy's adventures in a journal that goes along with it. Let me say, it was one rough week for this mom. Seriously, Piggie almost died... multiple times. My kids went nuts for this pig. Not the millions of stuffed animals they have in their rooms. Just this pig. They fought over him, slept with him, carried him into Costco and spilled a sample of salmon on him and finally cried when they had to part with him. I have never been so happy to see a toy go.

Last week Liam got to take a field trip to Riley's Farm in Oak Glen which is where we do all of our berry and apple picking. It was fun to see him learn what life used to be like back before technology. They made their own candles, went on a horse drawn wagon ride, went inside a log cabin, performed chores and then he and I made a pit stop for a dark chocolate Heath caramel apple. I just couldn't leave without one.
