We gave Liam a haircut a few days ago. This is his fourth time having his hair cut and it is the shortest it has ever been and it took the least amount of time it has ever taken. Paul was buzzing his hair and Liam was watching him with curiosity so we asked him if he wanted his hair cut like daddy. He did and was all for it as we buzzed the back half of his head but once hair started falling in his face he had had enough. Unfortunately, I was not about to let my son walk around with a reverse mullet. Business in the back and party in the front. So we employed our entertainment techniques of song singing and iPod viewing and got through it with minimal tears. I think it makes him look so grown up. That, and the fact that he's getting taller by the minute. I have been measuring his height on a chart hanging in his bedroom and I discovered a few days ago what I was already predicting from all the pairs of pants I've been having to put into storage lately. He grew a whole inch in the matter of two weeks.
Then, I took him to the park the other day and he asked me to put him on the big kid swings. I thought he would just sit there like he has in the past because I've been too scared to actually push him when he isn't in a toddler swing. But he looked very secure and was holding on tight and wiggling around so I gave him a few small pushes and he swung away for what was probably very close to half an hour. He's growing up so fast and it's so bittersweet. Life gets better in so many ways the older he gets but it still feels a little sad to know that one day very soon he won't want me to hold him and kiss his boo boos. Then he will think I'm dumb and he'll be embarrassed to be seen in public with me. And don't tell me it won't happen because I was a kid once and I remember it clear as day. In the meantime, I'm doing my best to enjoy every moment and to build as strong of a bond between us as possible. Afterall, it's not like he asked me drop him off at the movies. He just got a haircut and learned to swing.
oh my gosh... what a big boy!
